About Catherine
Since 1995, Catherine Barr has reported on all aspects
of life in Vancouver. From government and politics to
human interest, crime, health and entertainment.
Best known for her social event columns and photographs,
her articles have featured hundreds of local and international
celebrities along with coverage of all the star-studded
galas, fund raisers and invite-only parties around town.
But it didn't start
out that way.
It was only after leaving
the University of Calgary, and a career as a nurse,
that Catherine returned home
to Vancouver to pursue other interests.
"I lived for a while in both Toronto
and Calgary, but Vancouver was always home. I was born
here, and after university, I couldn't wait
to come
back.
The best part about being a nurse was working with people."
So back to school it was, this time to the University
of British Columbia for a B.A. degree in English and to B.C.I.T. for technical
training and advanced digital design.
Since then, Catherine's career
as a journalist has grown to include television, radio
and multimedia,
as well as print. Her articles and photographs have appeared
in many newspapers
and
magazines
including
The
National
Post, The Vancouver Province, Vancouver Lifestyles, The Vancouver Courier,
The North Shore
News, The Westender, The North Shore Outlook and Metro Daily News - Vancouver Edition.
As of August 2006, Catherine has added radio to her portfolio on a regular basis and has been working with CFUN 1410 AM talk/entertainment radio as their go-to events gal. Her live on-air Vancouver events segment "What's New Pussycat" is a regular feature every Friday at 4 pm on the "Jenn and Joe Show".
Her column "Cat's Eye" continues to be a popular weekly feature page published in The North Shore
Outlook every Thursday and her "Social Eyes" column in the Metro Daily News - Vancouver Edition every Tuesday. Catherine also continues to work behind the
scenes as a contributing writer/editor for the online
news sections of the
West
Vancouver.com and North
Vancouver.com community
websites.
