Park Royal 50th Anniversary

REMEMBER back to 50 years ago. It was an era of jukeboxes, hula hoops, yo-yos and more. It was also the start of something big in West Vancouver as Park Royal opened its doors to shoppers. That was the theme on Saturday November 4th as the mall put on a rock-and-roll party of its own to celebrate. At the centre court, in the south mall, a stage was set-up for entertainment as volunteers handed out cake and goodies. Lots of nostalgic displays were set-up throughout both north and south side malls and everyone got a chance to look back on the days gone by. Happy Anniversay Park Royal.

Taravat Rahmati was doing great in the hula hoop competition and even came away with a prize.

It was a cake big enough to feed an army. Anna Chabada (from left), Kristy Lowest and Gail Roxburgh were busy handing out cake to everyone who wanted a piece.

Cindy Allen, marketing director, and Rick Amantea, director, have reasons to be proud. The event was a big success.

Jessie Girling (from left) Hilary Blok and Julia McGuinty are from the NS Academy of Dance. They performed live onstage with their fellow dancers.

Emcee Gary Mussatto, who also runs the Gator Pit in the mall, was on stage to help out with the hula hoop competition.

Ashleigh Murphy (left) and Ashley Anders are great friends and spending time together at the mall is all part of the fun.

The large chess board and its players have moved around a lot over the last few years, but thanks to people like Dr. Mo (left) and Gavin Steininger, it will always be remembered as a part of the action.

Because the larger photos take up so much memory, I have not posted them here. If you want a copy of one of these larger photos, please feel free to email me at cbarr@westvancouver.com
