Battle of the Bands

YOU'VE heard of the Final Four in basketball, well on Saturday nights, at North Van's Cates Park, it's time for the musical equivalent. The Musart Cultural Society's "Final 7" Battle of the Bands is a great opportunity for local bands to compete for a place in, what else, the final seven. The grand prize will be awarded on August 25 when the last seven groups will compete with the winners receiving a mastered CD, a music video, a web site and more. Still, all the bands will be featured in an eight-part television series being produced by the team's multimedia group.

	Judging the bands from the most comfortable couch in the park was Kevin Kane (from left), Marc Charalambous and Paul Us.
	Carmel Amit (left) helped set up for the event before joining Gregg Hamilton for the show.
	Event coordinator Pourya "Ali" Khalili and producer Tyler Pearson are the driving force behind the Battle of the Bands.
	"The Relatives", consisting of Benny Strylove (from left), John Androsky, Troy Falk and Bruno Boeckler (missing from photo), play a mix of Brit-pop music.
	Bassist Dean Back (from left), singer/guitar player Tyler Connolly, drummer Tim hart and guitarist Dave Brenner call their band "Theory of a Deadman".
	Sound crew member Josh Handley and set-up gal Genevieve Sweigard are both part of the team. Donations are gratefully accepted.
	Check, check. Pushing the buttons at the sound board was assistant Paul Benzon.
