OVER 150,000 people are expected to attend this year's Vancouver International Film Festival. Screenings and trade forums are all part of the two week long celebration, but so are the parties. Even though Vancouver doesn't attract the same kind of celebs that Toronto does, the scene is still hot and familiar faces abound. And just in case you forgot, the North Shore is home to many film industry pros and actors. The opening gala party was held on Sept. 26 at the Commodore Ballroom, so see who you recognize below.

North Van's Toni-Lynn Frederick's film "Strong in the Arms, Strong all Over" is about her dad and is debuting at the festival. Jamie Kiffiak provided the underwater photos for the film.

Da Vinci's inquest star Donnelly Rhodes, who is currently living in North Van, took in the party after the screening.

Giada Dobrzenska, despite being one of the most glamorous ladies in attendance, is a director in her own right.

You might recognize Mina Shum (left), seen here with co-star Christina Ma, from the film "Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity".

North Van camera man Trent Opaloch (left), hung out with West Van's Sheera and Peter von Puttkamer. Sheera just finished shooting a documentary on breast cancer.

Vera Gibson (left) and Jayme Knox are two North Shore gals. Their product, "Street Cards" is really taking off.

CBC's @ The End's host Steve Burgess was happy to meet our very own Julie Crawford, NS News movie reviewer.

Ann Marie Fleming (left) just won best short film in Toroto for "Blue Skies", while lifelong actor and film fest fave Babz Chula can be seen in "Bitten".

"Fatima" (left), and "Coquette" were part of the sexy burlesque show that was part of the gala's entertainment.

West Van actor Todd Shillington and cinematographer Nina Jones hammed it up for the cameras.
