C.O.R.D. Silent Auction

THEY'RE on top of the world, or at least they'll be close. Kenya's Mount Kilimanjaro is the destination of North Vancouver's Jim Milina and his C.O.R.D. (Climbing Over Restriction and Disability Society) team members as they gear up for the month of August and the adventure of a lifetime. On Saturday Jun 22, Jim and his crew held a fun silent auction and pre-climb celebration fund raiser at the Lonsdale Quay Hotel. Live music, friends and lots of great prizes made for a great evening which will go a long way to helping the team achieve their goal. Care to help out? A former freestyle skier, Jim Milina (seen here with fiance and fellow climber Corine Gailloux), was injured in a skiing accident in 1981. But life as a quadriplegic hasn't dampened Jim's spirit or love of the outdoors. His ascent up Kilimanjaro, could make him the world record holder for disabled climbers.

A stomping good time was had by all thanks to the music of Ballyhooley and its band members, namely Rory Sharpe (left), Cary Grigg and Jim Lewis.

Selling t-shirts and raising money at the event were Lane Howard and Cornelia Sussmann.

Team Skyline's Brad Wilson and new bride Alison Wilson were just married this month. Congratulations.

Brian Wallace and Angela Nixon, who modelled a fabulous amber necklace up for auction, are both part of the climbing team.

George Jasper and wife Willene were happy to lend their support to Jim and his friends.

Bidding on golf packages, dinner certificates and wine baskets were Jim's lifelong friend Brian Taylor and guest Michelle Owen.

Ray and Cathie Gailloux are looking forward to having Jim as part of the family when he weds their daughter Corine sometime after the couple returns from Africa.

Carla Bradshaw (left), Cathy Sheehan and Pam Cook spent all kinds of money on the various silent auction items.

Joe Giuliani, seen here with wife Eileen, has known Jim since he was born and is thrilled to see him in action again.

Jim credits this man as being the inspiration behind the trip. North Van firefighter Eric Bjarnason is a seasoned climber and after Kilimanjaro, plans to tackle Everest.
