Babych Anglers Challenge

NHL Hockey players are known to be good golfers, but some of them are also avid fisherman. Just ask former Vancouver Canuck Dave Babych and his brother Wayne. For the last five years, the brothers have hosted the Dave Babych and Friends Anglers Challenge and Charity Auction. This year, North Vancouver's Le Bistro Chez Michel was the place to be on Tuesday July 16 as Dave and his buddies gathered to raise money for Grace McCarthy's C.H.I.L.D. Foundation (fighting Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). The next day they were all off to the Salmon King Lodge in Rivers Inlets. Congratulations everyone on a great fund raiser.

From politics to people. Former Socred leader Grace McCarthy is now the driving force behind the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation, because no child deserves to live in pain.

North Shore realtor and all-round good guy Ken Spong and wife Julie were more than happy to lend their support.

NS News display gal Sheryl English and husband Phil were rubbing elbows with all the hockey players and friends.

Nine-year-old Kolton Babych spent his auction money on a huge A&W Root Bear that was almost as big as he.

It was a night for friends and fun as Denise Ouang (left), former Minnesota North Star player Paul Houck, Marc Sylvestre and Janet Robertson could tell you.

Don't know what Howie Lobar did to deserve all this attention as Wendy Bennet (left) and Cindy Lawlor laid a big smack on him.

Bidding on prizes and enjoying time together were Shelley Owen, Tish Stewart, Mike and Gill Watson.

It's a family affair as David Owen (left), Maureen Keith and Wayne Stewart will tell you.

The Babych boys did it again. Another successful year with lots of money raised. Hosts Wayne Babych (left), Dave Babych, Le Bistro Chez Michel partner Philippe Segur and (in front) Ty Babych were extra pleased with the turnout.

Former Canuck player Martin Gelinas (centre) went to the Stanley Cup Finals last season with the Carolina Hurricanes. Friends Karl Robathan (left) and Tiffany Wall were cheering him all the way.
