Wild Lights Lantern Festival

EDGEMONT Village was the place to be on Friday Aug. 23 as the streets filled with fire and flames for the annual Wild Lights Lantern Festival. Peopled gathered in the city square early evening to watch the kids make their lanterns and masks in preparation for the parade. Music by the celtic group Blackthorn entertained young and old until the sun went down. Then the magic began as a carnival like atmosphere took over and the lanterns lit the way. Stilt walkers, musicians and fire dancers dazzled the crowds much to the delight of everyone who attended. Sponsored in part by the North Vancouver Commmunity Arts Council.

With a look of fire in her eyes, little three-year-old Eva Fulton anxiously awaited the start of the parade.

Festival coordinator Deborah Burleson wore her extra special, extra tall pink hat so that her 40 volunteers could find her easily.

Decorating the lanterns was half the fun as Sara Sherstobitoff (left), sister Kelly and Lindsay Kupser could tell you.

Volunteers Adam Giesbrecht andd Kathy Soucie were busy selling glowsticks for those who didn't have time to make a lantern.

Barbara Raynor and friend Eileen Chammen had fun watching all the kids dance and parade around.

Who's that hiding behind that mask? Why it's five-year-old Emil Netchev (left) and his seven-year-old sister Nadia.

Two-year-old Cailin Shires was all wide-eyed as she and mom Lisa Clark watched all the preparation.

"Getting to watch the fire," is the best part according to six-year-old Lisa Baronit who sat safely on dad Ron's lap.
