Salmon Fest at the Quay

LONSDALE Quay is celebrating summer with a plethora of activities every weekend. Last Saturday things got started with a mouth-watering summer salmon festival that included demonstrations, a chef's competition, salmon barbecue and kids' sandwich making competition. Members of the Nisgaa Nation were on hand to entertain and educate bringing music, dance and, yes, even the wild salmon that was being served. And there was nothing fishy about the prizes either as one lucky chef took home a luxury fishing trip as a grand prize. Read on and see who that was.

Herbert Morven, who is also the chair of the Nisgaa Persons' Government, gave a blessing before the kids' sandwich making contest began.

Nisgaa Nation dancer and drummer, Debbie Derrick and Eric Barton, helped entertain the large crowd that had gathered.

The Cannery's chefs, namely Dave Jensen (left) and executive chef Frederic Couton, took their turning serving at the barbecue.

All the action was focused on these two during the demonstration. CKNW personality Kevin Hayes (left) teamed with organizer and Salmon Shop owner Kosta Zogaris.

Nothing tastes better than wild salmon served hot off the grill. Just ask Kristian Morris and Diane Bowden.

Filleting a salmon looks easy when they do it. Onur Oner (left) and Malcolm McMillan, from the Salmon Shop, are true fish pros.

Deanna Nyce was one of the judges in the restaurant competition which was won by Quattro on 4th's chef Rob Parrott.
