EVERY
year, about this time, the West Vancouver School District and its staff
members put on a great appreciation lunch for the many local businesses
who support their career programs. Last week, the West Vancouver Yacht
Club was the perfect setting for the business luncheon which took place
on a very sunny June 4. This year alone, over 250 students enrolled
in the careers program, participating in over 460 volunteer work placements.
Businesses ranging from engineering firms to banks, health care centres
and movie production companies took part and gave the kids a chance
to see what life might be like beyond graduation. A great resume booster,
a great chance to grow. |

Participating
in the careers program is a rewarding experience as Marion Beck
(left) and Linda Harrison will tell you. |

District
career programs assistant Pam Crowley would love to hear from
you if you and your business are willing to take on a student.
Find her at the district office, 1075 - 21 Street. |

Officer
in charge, Doug Alpin, seen here with West Vancouver High School's
Rhonda Foster, is with the Coast Guard, one of the many businesses
involved in the program. |

They're
career women for sure. From left: Kate Dwyer (pre-school teacher
at North Shore Neighbourhood House), Cynde Harmon (from Really
Real Films production company) and Jenny Stevens (special education
teacher). |

Quick,
call 9-1-1. Kathleen Suddes had students with her this past year
at the Lower Mainland's E-Comm emergency call centre facility.

Program
coordinator Bill McKitrick couldn't have been happier with the
turnout. It's a special day that can't be beat. |
