Arts Club 40th Anniversary Gala

Nov 1, 2003

By Catherine Barr

On Nov 1, the Arts Club Theatre celebrated its dramatic 40th Anniversary at the Sutton Place Hotel with no shortage of famous North Shore faces. The people who have brought the best of stage performances to this town were definitely puttin' on the ritz as they themed the evening around their Ruby Red 40th Anniversary and production of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris". Song and dance, impromptu entertainment, a formal dinner and a charity auction made this evening a complete success.

Meanwhile, this Tuesday, artist Vjeko Sager transformed the Seymour art Gallery into a learning theatre with his "installation" pieces. Split personality, or just plain multi-talented, Vjeko tells the story of four alter-ego personalities as they undergo a type of art evolution. His exhibit runs until Nov. 27.

Our North Shore boys. Stanley theatre past president Bruce Milley (left) joined in the celebration with actor Jackson Davies.
Wearing a red jewel studded bow tie, Stanley Theatre building manager Jack Holmes and companion Andrea May were a big hit.
Broadway babe and gospel singer Lovena Fox, seen here with North Van's Bruce Vernon, recently participated in West Van's Harmony Arts Festival and will soon be starring in the upcoming production of "Evita".
"My Fair Lady" actor Jennifer Lyon was tempted to get up on stage, but instead left the singing up to "Side by Side" performer Pat Rose.
Marlene Dixon and Artistic Managing Director Bill Millerd have each spent over 30 years promoting and supporting the Arts Club.
West Van's John Sutherland, seen here with beautiful Debbie Clyne, is also a driving force behind the new Kay Meek Centre for Performing Arts in West Van.

Friends XXXXXX and XXXXXXX came out to support Vjeko and see his art.
On the board, but never boring, Seymour's Kelly Wood and director/curator Jacquie Morgan always add life to every opening.
