West Van's Kay Meek Theatre Opening

Apr 21, 2006

By Catherine Barr

West Vancouver's new Kay Meek Centre is a crown jewel for performing arts in the community. Its main theatre stage has already hosted many world-class concerts and events but last week marked yet another milestone. Last Friday night, dignitaries, VIPs and board members gathered to cut the ribbon on the Kay Meek Studio Theatre which opened to the public with a performance of Canadian playwright Norm Foster's comedy "Office Hours". The intimate 200 seat space may be smaller than its 500 seat sister stage upstairs, but it's still big on talent as proven by the Theatre West Van performers who took to the stage in a big way claiming it as their new home, finally, after 60 years. Watch for more from them later this year as they celebrate this diamond anniversary.

Vancouver's best events and celebrity functions are all archived here. Vancouver pubs, clubs, nightclubs, gala events and fundraisers are included. Thanks for viewing.

Due to server capacity, you will not be able to access or click through to the larger photographs. With over 250,000 unique visits each month, our site would quickly exceed the amount of memory needed.

If you would like to receive a copy of a photograph, then please send an email and enclose the details of the event, the date, the name, the photo number and the names of the people in the photograph. Also, for security reasons, I prefer not to email copies of pictures to anyone other than the people who are actually in the photo. Thanks.

Kay Meek Centre's client services manager Janik Chopin cuddled up to entertainer Will Blunderfield who sang for the guests during the VIP reception.
Waiting for the ribbon cutting ceremony and enjoying the before play reception were West Vancouver Community Foundation past chair Jo-Ann Wood (left), big band music legend Dal Richards and wife Muriel, West Van Parks and Rec director Kevin Pike and wife Margo Gram.
Mingling before the show were West Van school board chair Jane Kellett (left), school trustee Mary-Ann Booth and Nancy Kehler.
School trustee Cindy Dekker (left) and Kay Meek director Susanna Bell-Irving both looked perfect in plum - the season's hottest colour.
