Malcolm Parry 70th Birthday and Vancouver Board of Trade Cancer Fundraser at Beyond

Oct 25, 2006

By Catherine Barr

Three years ago, a fellow journalist, friend and North Shore resident was diagnosed with cancer. But Malcolm Parry, whose popular Vancouver Magazine / Vancouver Sun columns were among the first of their kind, does not back away from challenges and today has bravely battled back into fine form. "Mac" was fit to be tied last Wednesday at the Century Plaza Hotel's Beyond ultra lounge (owned by West Vancouver's Sergio and Wendy Cocchia) where the Vancouver Board of Trade held a special cancer fundraiser and 70th birthday party in his honour. The "Up Parryscope" event was a who's who trip down memory lane where both guests, and Mac himself, got a chance to roast and toast each other till they were done - or well done in this case. Congrats to everyone involved.

Vancouver's best events and celebrity functions are all archived here. Vancouver pubs, clubs, nightclubs, gala events and fundraisers are included. Thanks for viewing.

Due to server capacity, you will not be able to access or click through to the larger photographs. With over 250,000 unique visits each month, our site would quickly exceed the amount of memory needed.

If you would like to receive a copy of a photograph, then please send an email and enclose the details of the event, the date, the name, the photo number and the names of the people in the photograph. Also, for security reasons, I prefer not to email copies of pictures to anyone other than the people who are actually in the photo. Thanks.

PR gal extraordinaire Patrician Dunn (left) chatted with West Vancouver's own Lenora Gates, a cancer survivor and avid fundraiser.
Covered in lipstick kisses, Malcolm Parry posed with blond beauties Alison Fraser (left), catering manager, Beyond co-owner and West Vancouverite Wendy Cocchia and organizer Carmen Ruiz y Laza.
Vancouver Board of Trade, Director of Business Development, Blair Qualey joined guests Traci Myles (left) and Megan Moyle to sing "Happy Birthday".
Both from North Van, both over 21, and most importantly, both cancer survivors. Hugs and kisses to my fellow society columnists and friends, Joy Metcalfe and Malcom Parry.
Vancouver condo king Bob Rennie and Carol Lee were among the many VIPs who came to wish Mac well.
CFUN radio host Jennifer Thompson and Wolverton Security's Brian Ashton raised a glass in Mac's honour.
VIPs at the event included developers Steven and Grace Kwok of Pinnacle International whose recent projects include The Pier at the foot of Lonsdale.
Former North Van police superintendent and current Vancouver police chief Jamie Graham was accompanied by wife Gail.
Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan, seen here wtih partner Lynn (left), delivered a wonderful toast as guests like Paul and Devina Zalesky, of North Van's All-West Insurance, looked on.
