Grammy-award winning musician David Foster, who is the mastermind composer behind great singers like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Olivia Newton-John and Michael Buble, headlined Saturday's Great Canadian Achievement Award ceremony at Coquitlam's Red Robinson Theatre. Benefiting the CHILD Foundation (CHildren with Intestinal and Liver Disorders), Foster took to the stage with Red Robinson and Terry David Mulligan to entertain one of the most prestigious audiences ever. VIPs, movers and shakers, like BC Bearings' Wendy McDonald, legendary bandleader Dal Richards, and Great Canadian Casino CEO Ross McLeod, all paid between $600 - $1,200 a ticket to be part of the first ever awards night that honoured Dr. Brandt C. Louie, CEO of London Drugs. Foster then took the opportunity to introduce some of his new up-and-coming talent who wowed everyone by singing some of his most famous movie theme songs. Foster, who has also composed themes for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and more, makes no bones about the fact that he would like to be asked to compose for Vancouver 2010. Don't worry David, I'd be totally shocked if that invitation isn't already in the mail. Also, a big shout out to the gang of Red Squared on Granville on their big vodka blowout opening night party. Proving that you really can have too many friends, the Russian-themed restaurant/bar was packed and was literally busting at the seams with well-wishers who formed long, communist-style bread lines just to get a glimpse of all the action. Power to the people.
